Tennis is a game
for all ages as evidenced by the players we serve….
Mackie McDonald started hitting balls at the age of three. He recently
won the prestigious "Little Mo" National Boys 11 title, and just as
importantly, the Sportsmanship Award. Kudos to his parents, Michael and
Vivian, as they support his efforts to become an accomplished player….
As a university professor, Winton Tong encouraged his students to
play tennis as a social outlet. Retired since ’93, he continues to share
his love for the sport by encouraging his grandson's tennis pursuits, as
well as playing every other day himself…. Pat Winter believes
playing tennis has helped her through some difficult personal times.
She claims that she will continue to play even if she has to “crawl
onto the court”.... Janice Carter and Irene Segura told me a
few years back that they wanted to attend each of the Grand Slam events, and
they have!.... After thirty years of playing and five years away from
the sport, Mary Pearson took her first set of lessons and attended a
reunion with her tennis buddies in Indiana. She claims that tennis has
always been good for her in terms of enjoying the sport and the friendships
she has developed…. Robert Jackson has always considered himself a
“terrible athlete” but finds the more he plays the better he feels
physically as his aches, pains, and arthritis have “diminished”. He
recently started playing tennis everyday!…. Jeannie Yee and
Greg Baer are two good spirits who simply enjoy playing tennis, no
egos or ulterior motives involved…. Greg and Gary Simon are great
fans of the sport who have generously shared their tennis videos with me.
These
are just a few of the nice people we have had the pleasure to meet and
serve. They all exhibit a great attitude toward life, and I can't help but
think that tennis is a major reason for that attitude. It’s fair to say
that tennis has provided physical benefits, stress relief and friendships
for all as they meet life’s challenges.
So... tennis anyone?
